I'm very disappointed in tonight's outcome with Tampa's triumph of the Stanley Cup. All truth be told, Calgary got raped unbelievably tonight, especially in the first two periods...and possibly the first half of third but I decided 'Shanghai Noon' would be much more entertaining to watch at that point.
But there are a few things I want to clear up. I am a hockey fan. Just because I'm a bandwagon hopper does not mean otherwise. You'll know I'm not a fan if I don't even hop onto the wagon at the wrap of the season (i.e.baseball). Secondly, I can be a fan of Oilers and still cheer for Calgary. Like many others, I cheer for Oilers because I have ties to the team. But likewise, I have ties to Canada so if you can't settle with first best, I'll gladly take the second. The Cup surely doesn't belong in Canada but it would be nice if it came home considering hockey is in a way an icon of Canada. And Tampa having more Canadian players than Calgary does not make Tampa any more Canadian. It just further illustrates how many of the good Canadian players (and other nationalities) are bought out to the richer teams. Often, our teams are left with mostly rookies. Not having the Cup in Canada for many years just makes us look like a mere portal for players. But with a Canadian team contending for the Stanley Cup this year, it puts Canada back in the spotlight. Sadly, we couldn't follow through.
Either way, Tampa won fair and square and it would be same had Calgary won. It was a very close game with the series at a 4-3 and at the very least, I'm happy Calgary didn't get trampled overall! Good game to both teams! Now time to turn our eyes to www.boltsgirls.com
