"Dickson, You are so lazy you would marry a pregnant woman!" - H.S. Math Teacher

Injustice of the Sports Gods!

I'm very disappointed in tonight's outcome with Tampa's triumph of the Stanley Cup.  All truth be told, Calgary got raped unbelievably tonight, especially in the first two periods...and possibly the first half of third but I decided 'Shanghai Noon' would be much more entertaining to watch at that point.

But there are a few things I want to clear up.  I am a hockey fan.  Just because I'm a bandwagon hopper does not mean otherwise.  You'll know I'm not a fan if I don't even hop onto the wagon at the wrap of the season (i.e.baseball).  Secondly, I can be a fan of Oilers and still cheer for Calgary.  Like many others, I cheer for Oilers because I have ties to the team.  But likewise, I have ties to Canada so if you can't settle with first best, I'll gladly take the second.  The Cup surely doesn't belong in Canada but it would be nice if it came home considering hockey is in a way an icon of Canada.  And Tampa having more Canadian players than Calgary does not make Tampa any more Canadian.  It just further illustrates how many of the good Canadian players (and other nationalities) are bought out to the richer teams.  Often, our teams are left with mostly rookies.  Not having the Cup in Canada for many years just makes us look like a mere portal for players.  But with a Canadian team contending for the Stanley Cup this year, it puts Canada back in the spotlight.  Sadly, we couldn't follow through.

Either way, Tampa won fair and square and it would be same had Calgary won.  It was a very close game with the series at a 4-3 and at the very least, I'm happy Calgary didn't get trampled overall! Good game to both teams!  Now time to turn our eyes to www.boltsgirls.com

Good post :)

I know that its good for Canada to be in the Stanley Cup finals, but some people just take it way too darn seriously. If you were brought up as an Oiler fan, I think your comments about cheering for Calgary might be a little different. The battle of Alberta, all the history - cheering for Calgary just isn't right!

All in all, I honestly think Tampa deserved the Cup! And I am very glad damn Iginla didn't win the Conn Smythe. Now to check out that website...

well said dickson. i agree with mack about actually having a canadian team in the finals. I mean shit, who would have cared if it was dallas and tampa? not me (though I canNOT get behind Dallas on principle....fucking mike modano...so i would have rather liked tampe to win in that case.) I guess what it boils down to is that once your favourite team is out, you gotta settle. My dadm for example, is a Habs fan through and through, but he isn't above rooting for a team like Ottawa (who has become much more of a rival than the leafs in recent years) in the playoffs. I was brought up an Oilers fan, but I also love the Wings. I think it'd be fantastic if the Oilers got there, but the sad truth is, once April hits and the Oilers are either in for one round only or not even there, there has to be some other team. And for me, any team that can take my Wings out has earned my respect for beating the best team in hockey. That's how I got behind Calgary.
