Google Launches Map Search Beta

Today, Google announced the release of its Map service (beta) allowing one to search for directions and local businesses and although it does not compare to well establish programs like Microsoft Mappoint (which I use frequently), I believe it does have potential.  Google's Map service launch just overshadows the purchase of satellite imaging company Keyhole and a quick look on their website tells me that they are somehow part of Google's Map Service vision.  Imagine in a few months not only being able to find directions but also able to view current traffic conditions.  Or want to see where contruction zones are? Search it up! On another note, this could really bring new meaning to the phrase “googling a person”.

Unfortunately, the Google Maps service announced today does not use any technology from Keyhole, who specializes in 3D and satellite mapping technologies. As I said on my blog, stick with MapPoint!
