"Dickson, You are so lazy you would marry a pregnant woman!" - H.S. Math Teacher

Gnomedex Update

We finished our first keynote with Dave Winer and during the break, Mack and I decided to do our first showcase of the Podbot. The wireless network is giving us a little problem but we were still able to drive it around a little and it got quite some camera attention. We're now in the second keynote where Microsoft is giving its first public demo of Internet Explorer 7 on Longhorn Windows. Its got quite a makeover and has new features including:

-RSS sensing. It can detect feeds on your blogs and such and it can render it right in your browser. -You can also subscribe to feeds in internet explorer and it stores it in a centralized location so other applications can access the data

The new Windows also really tries to take advantage of RSS feeds for all media types including pictures, videos and so on. Pretty cool! Longhorn Beta 1 will be available in August.

The funny thing is that I've read and read and read and read everything that I've been able to find on your podbot, and I still have no idea as to wtf it is. Now, I'm not the brightest guy out there, but if I have to click more than twice on the PODBOT HOMEPAGE to figure out what the hell it is, something is wrong.

Also, no point in using servos for drive control. Servos are for high-precision motor movement. Internally, they implement a closed-loop feedback system in order to maintain a high resolution in the movement range. When I designed my robot, I went with stepper motors, but even that was friggin overkill. The best solution (for both of us) would have been a single DC motor connect to a drive shaft to power the drive wheels (speed controlled via PWM), and a stepper or servo for controlling a turning wheel (as opposed to a passive caster).

It is what its name describes! Its a podcasting robot! Podcasting in its most basic form is the act of recording and publishing audio onto the internet.

We did consider using step motors and even a single motor to power the wheels but we had less than a month to bring the podbot from idea to reality so needless to say, we cut corners whenever we could.
