Alberta Provincial Museum can be fun! Here's why:
The Edmonton Film Society is running a summer long event (till September 5th) where they will be playing musicals (think of My Fair Lady or Sound of Music) produced in the 1950's (and before) every monday at 8 pm at the Alberta Provincial Musuem. Last night, I went with Sharon to see
Kiss Me Kate and it was quite funny! The script and lyrics are creative and even more amazing is the dancing. The choreography is very thought out matching each scene and mood exactly. And for $4 admission, its definitely a very inexpensive way to have a great night. But get to your seats early because they actually go out pretty fast. Also, don't expect your average crowd to be there. When I walked into the theatre the first thing I saw was this huge patch of white. Turns out the average age group is hovering around 4 times my age.
In any case, its a shame this type of movie genre has largely disappeared from today's industry but you're if interested at experiencing some classics, go check out the schedule
here.
The next show, The Belle of New York, is about a
"footloose playboy who gets his comeppance when struck by unattainable love". I'll probably be going.
