If you know anything about China, chances are its probably on its tight free speech policy. From my many experiences of being in China and chats with my cousin, I know how serious these laws can be. On the streets of China, you don't talk about democracy and in particular, you do not mention the anti-government group,
Falun Gong. Such acts can lead to prison time and presumably, torture. On the internet, the same rules apply. Not only are webpages and chatrooms being monitored but also instant messages. My cousin has told me stories of questionable messages being blocked when using chinese instant messaging programs to the point that people started sending images of writing to convey their messages. For most people, these laws humble them. For me, I've learned to use it as a weapon. Remember Gobi - A friend whom I've worked closely with on school projects yet we wish each other ill fates and in one case, tried to annex our course project group from
within. Well, Gobi is in China/Hong Kong right now and what can I say, old habits die hard:
