Today, Edmonton hosted several events throughout the day to celebrate Alberta's 100th birthday. I attended the Alberta Centennial Breakfast with my brother this morning and got there just in time as they ran out of pancake batter soon after. We caught the last hour of the breakfast and I'm glad I did as we got to see some pretty talented singers as young as eleven years old. I also ran into quite a few people including Zaheer and Rahim. Remember Zaheer from high school? Apparently he is back and will be heading to the University of Alberta so keep an eye out for him if you're on campus this year. There was also the Time Capsule on display but the line up to see it was too long so I didn't get a good look but you can take a look at the pictures
here. The Time Capsule is suppose to capture the memories and mementos of Albertans and will be making its way around the province. From the
Alberta Centennial site:
The time capsule is almost 6.5 meters (21 feet) long, and 1.8 meters (6 feet) in diameter and weighing more than 1,497 kg (3,300 lbs) empty; 2,722 kg (6,000 lbs) when full. Containing lights, strobes, LED screens and fog machines, the capsule required over 3,000 hours for design, sandblasting, welding, painting and electronics installation.
Normally, I would have my own pictures to show but my camera is currently with my mom who will be returning from China tomorrow.
I also went to see the fireworks in the evening with
Mack. Arriving right at 10 pm, we caught the fireworks just as it started which lasted about 10-15 minutes. It is definitely the best fireworks show I've seen in Edmonton AND it was coordinated to live music performed by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Alberta Centennial Jazz Band.
Check out some of the
photos.
