Perhaps one of my most favorite actors is
Jackie Chan. He's funny and even at this age, he can do amazing stunts (he is his own stunt man) and if you have ever watched a documentary on him, you'll also realize he is a very smart man. His movies are typically a combination of comedy and action so it was a little odd to see Jackie Chan in his most recent movie
The Myth where the story was much more serious.
Jackie Chan plays on a role of a modern day archeologist who carries the spirit of a Qin Dynasty general from over two millenniums ago. His visions of the past life along with his friend's scientific curiosity of a certain material from that time lead them on a quest to uncover the myth.
The movie has plenty of action and you're kept in suspense for most of the time. The movie is much like
The House of the Flying Dagger where the story doesn't unfold until the end except
The Myth did a way better job of doing it. Although I'm not a fan of this style of movie because it feels like the story ended abruptly and leaves you wanting more, I think the movie is still worth a watch.
The movie is in mandarin and because it is still very new, it is unlikely you'll find a version with official English subtitles. Sharon, Annie and I spent the first 15 minutes watching it with chinese subtitles and realizing our combined efforts in deciphering the movie wasn't enough, I went on the internet and downloaded english subtitles written by a fan. It wasn't perfect but it was alot closer than our guesses!
