This is an update to the
post I made a little while back about a new chinese 4x4 that scored zero in a crash test conducted by ADAC. But most recently, a new test conducted by Germany TUV, the same vehicle has now in fact,
passed and met the safety standards required by EU. The article also mentions the comments made by
Peter Bijvelds, a Dutch importer of the chinese SUV and a professional race car driver, who questioned the validity of the crash test conducted by ADAC.
Bijvelds, however, question the validity of the crash test and even doubted that the ADAC were manipulated by the powerful German automotive industry which perhaps found a way to keep the Chinese competitor from entering the market.
Bijvelds said that it was"a great coincidence" that the results of the ADAC crash tests were published on the eve of the Frankfurt car show, where the economically priced Chinese SUV was to be officially unveiled.
He maybe right but take a look at this crash test video conducted at 64 km/h by ADAC:
Now compare it to the crash test video conducted by TUV which was actually driven at 54 km/h:
That hardly looks like pass to me! I also mentioned in my earlier post that the car manufacturer should have made a modified version for international sale and apparently they did. Or at least Peter Bijvelds did. Turns out as the sole importer of the car, he had to make
$350 worth of modifications to meet the safety standards. As a person who may have considerable influence on consumer's purchase decision, I think he needs to exercise a stronger responsibility for consumer's safety. I would definitely not trust this car! Incidently, my initial search on this new test result only yielded articles from state controlled chinese news agency. Everything surrounding this car points to bad news.
