When I first learned of the ADD program played on
96X from
Mack, I questioned the ethics of naming a program that devalues people who suffer from attention deficit disorder. Since then, I'm glad to see my sentiments echoed in an email that was circulating around among
others that enlist listeners to boycott
96X. Personally, I haven't actually listen to the ADD hour so didn't give much thought to the statement (see below) in the email until today.
and between the songs they would have short vignettes that devalue people with ADHD through humiliation, embarassement, and slander.
I was fortunate to wake up early enough to
relatively catch my 8 am class (have been on a hiatus for a little while) and while heading off campus at around 9:40 am, I tuned into
96X, which at the time is their ADD hour. Between one of the songs, I heard an ad that went much like this:
If you're suffering from ADD, there's hope now. All you have to do is - hey! are you going to finish that sandwich?
It is one thing to call a program ADD hour but its another to actively make fun of those who have it. At the very least, they should drop the ADD ridicule they play inbetween songs. As for the name, I think it lies in a very gray area.
