Remember the hype surrounding
Odeo before it was even released? I remember people, including myself, following their every move hoping to get a sneak peek at screenshots or chosen for their private betas. But over the months, Odeo seem to have slow down the pace and even with huge time gaps between announcements, they did not seem to create any new features or innovations that really caught my attention.
Michael Armington made a
post recently regarding his experience with Odeo and how it has turned from high hopes to outright disappointment.
In the 4-5 months since the product was launched, Apple has released yet another version of iTunes and Podshow raised nearly $9m from Kleiner Perkins and Sequoia. Did Odeo release its studio tool?
No.
Instead, they released a desktop widget.
Last week Odeo did get its studio product out. It's visually appealing. But it is so feature poor that it's effectively a non product.
Well said. While there has been
some activity with Odeo, their lack of creating
useful tools is a big disappointment. Given the momentum they have built and the huge resources at their disposal, I expected much more from Odeo.
Further, their lack of presence at the upcoming
Portable Media Expo is somewhat puzzling given the nature of the expo and the presence Odeo is trying to establish in the podcasting community.
On a side note, I will be attending the Portable Media Expo along with
Mack to represent our
company where we will be debuting our new podcasting solution (stay tune for official announcement). We are very excited with what we have and designed it with the podcaster and listener in mind. Additionally, I am looking forward to see what other people and companies have done to enrich the podcasting community. Four days left before departure!
