As expected, the Conservatives have come out on top with a minority government ending the Liberal's 12 year reign. And with it, I'm sad that Paul Martin has decided to
quit as Liberal leader. I think he has been a good icon for Canada and I can only hope that Harper will be able to live up to it, though being compared as Bush's twin brother sure doesn't help.
My mind was split between NDP and Liberals and it wasn't until I stepped into the polling station that I decided to vote Liberal. I chose Liberal mainly because compared to NDP, Liberal's economic policy seems much more beneficial to Canada in the long run.
I was lucky enough to be taking ECON 282 (Macroeconomics) this semester as it allowed my professor to comment on the economic policies of the various parties and how it might affect Canada. It made economics much more interesting and probably influenced my vote in the end. He was quite critical of the Conservatives' economic policy and made a prediction that if those policies were to come true, we would be in deficit spending within 5 years - not that they would last that long. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out.
