Today begins day 1 of
Northern Voice, better known as Moose Camp where anyone can sign up to present a topic. Registration began at 8 am though we (Mack, Megan and I) opted to skip the morning rush by sleeping in a few more hours. The first session we attended (later half) was called "We're all journalists now" by
Mark Hamlton who discussed the implications of new mediums of media like blogging, podcasting, videopodcasting. Near the end, we broke into a discussion but unfortunately was unable to finish it because of time constraint. Some of the issues we discussed:
- With each year, its harder to find relevant content and that tagging will always be messy (which I don't think is a problem).
- Contrary to what Mark Hamilton and a few others are saying, Chris Pirillo believes that not all bloggers should be called journalists - "If I can apply a bandaid, does that mean I'm a doctor.". I disagree with Chris. There's a differentiation between amateur and professional (or respected) journalism but everyone is in some form a journalist. Not everyone can "string two words" as eloquently but in the end all that matters is that the idea comes across.
