Robert Sanzalone's session on
Podcasting and Video Blogging is all about how easy it really is. His company, Pacific IT, is all about teaching companies how to podcast and video blog.
- Actual toys you need to do it cost nothing. These tools include Audacity (Windows) and Garageband (Mac)
- Robert Scoble said he has had over 20,000 downloads for his podcast.
- Most of us already have the capability to record video using our cell phones, digital camera and video camera
- The problem is when you get into the technical issues. i.e. What format should I use for my videos and audio? What happens when a new format comes out (mp4)? How do I convert all my existing media files to the new format?
- You can leverage tools like Revver to transcode into other formats (well .mov only) but the best one he found is Dailymotion. You can upload any video format and it will convert it to mp4 and flash.
After the session, I asked him how well his clients entertain the idea of using third party products and services, especially when they lose control of their files. He says that generally they don't mind but that comments should be turned off to prevent malicious spamming. I didn't think that companies would be so willing as there are certainly many disadvantages in the long run.
