"Dickson, You are so lazy you would marry a pregnant woman!" - H.S. Math Teacher

HelpAStudent.com

On another topic related to education, here's a site where students use the internet to help obtain an education. The goal behind HelpAStudent is to raise $1 million that will be given to students in need. Students create a profile and write an elevator pitch about why they deserve the money. Visitors can then vote which students deserve the money and the top 50 males and females will be entitled to the money. It is open to students in Canada, U.S., U.K., Republic of Ireland, New Zealand or Australia. Pretty neat idea and I even see a few students from the University of Alberta. Pretty neat idea but think there are still some kinks to be worked out like ensuring the students are actually students and ensuring a fair voting process. Check it out!

wow... cool idea!

you make a valid point about verifying that students are actually students...

but on their FAQ they say "If you win, we will require you to have your university send us proof of enrollment as a full-time student at the university specified in your application."
(see http://www.helpastudent.com/FAQ/Students)

i guess they ask for transcripts and maybe a scan of your student ID? what other kinds of proof exist?

True, that provides some measure of authenticity but I can see a few students unfairly abusing the voting system.
