I recently saw Brokeback Mountain and although it has had many positive reviews, I have a hard time agreeing with their views. The story is "based on the E. Annie Proulx story about a forbidden and secretive relationship between two cowboys and their lives over the years." [

I felt the movie was very slow (and long) and that they've done a poor job showing the discrimination and stereotype they faced during that era. In the entire movie, there were less than 3 short scenes that actually made a reference to the discrimination. Part of the reason we didn't get to see their struggles in the society is because the directors wanted to emphasize that they were alone and disconnected from the society but I think they tried too hard to the point the movie suffered. That being said, I think the reviews were postively skewed because the movie touches on a sensitive topic (especially now) and usually those who are bold enough to tackle a topic like this are praised. What I did like about the movie is that they showed enough for the audience to understand their relationship but not so much that it would make us uncomfortable.
Overall, I had a hard time connecting to the characters and despite having a very sad ending, the movie wasn't powerful enough to invoke any emotion.
