Conclusion: VenturePrize 2006

Today marks the end of the Alberta 2006 VenturePrize business plan competition and it has been a very tense day. We didn't place first but this entire experience itself has been rewarding enough. The prizes for the second and third places are the same and although they didn't explicitly distinguish between the two rankings, it sounded like we placed second. The grand prize winner is a company headed by Chris and Don called Leading Edge Technologies and they have developed a customizable testing engine that allows companies, institutions and academics alike to easily conduct online exams. I talked to them for a little bit at the table and the growth they have had over the past 14 months is amazing! The other finalists, Ken and Kyle, developed a soluton called EduPort:

Eduport provides a convenient, easy-to-use, single point of access for students, parents, teachers and administrators to communicate, collaborate, and access learning resources, online courses and Web self-services.
Congratulations to both of you (and of course us!). I'm sure we will all find continuing success!

Now time to start packing for Ottawa and repeat the whole process!
