Of all the games I've played, the one I remember the most is
Team Fortress Classic. From playing with friends, competing together in leagues to late night 9 on 9 scrimmage on the night before a history essay is due, TFC is one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. Of the games I didn't get to play, the one I most wanted to try was Team Fortress 2 (
screenshots). But after years and years of delay, it was touted as nothing more than vaporware. But in a recent announcement at the Electronic Arts Showcase, Valve announced that Team Fortress 2 will be released with Half-Life 2: Episode 2 (near the end of the year). Based on the
trailer (no gameplay shots), which looks nothing like the old screenshots, it is clear that Valve rewrote the game from scratch. More than anything, it looks like something brewed out of the Pixar laboratories. That's not to say it won't be good, but the game is going to have to do much more than have pretty colors and comedic looking characters to appeal to the 18-30 age group.
There's also an independent project called
Fortress Forever that has been in the works for sometime now and although there's no set release date, it does look very promising (maybe even more so than Valve's). In either case, I await with eager anticipation...
