Following my previous post on education with another one, what happens if technology, curriculum and parents are not enough to get the needed grades for your child? Turn to drugs. That's what more and more parents are doing by getting their doctors to prescribe drugs for ADHD even if their child shows no symptoms of it.
From MSNBC:
Academic doping — using these stimulant prescriptions in an effort to enhance focus, concentration and mental stamina — first started on college campuses, especially Ivy League and exclusive, competitive schools. Now, the problem is filtering down to secondary schools, Yates says, and more parents are playing a role in obtaining prescription ADHD medication for their teenagers.
Sounds shocking at first but is it really that bad? After all, we drink coffee to stay awake, take sleeping pills so we can be productive the next day, take vitamins to increase stamina and longevity and the list keeps on going...
I am willing to bet sometime in the future taking pills for the brain will be as common as taking vitamins.
