It's a sad day when even students become victims of violence. I was at the World Health Club today when I saw the news coverage on the Montreal school shooting. At least one gunman walked into the Dawson College and started shooting randomly and as of now, there are 4 dead and about 20 wounded. When you see something like this unfold, it almost seems surreal. People stopped and huddled around the tv. Others would go work out but come back every few minutes just to see what was happening.
School shooting is happenning way to often. Montreal's 1989 Massacre, Columbine, Taber High School, Satana High School, Heritage High School, North Battleford elementary school and the list keeps going. Even our school, University of Alberta, is among the list.
Today, some schools have fought back with metal detectors and on-site officers. Some teachers in southern Thailand are arming themselves with guns. It's a sad world where we live and it only seems like it's going to get worse.
