China might not be the epicenter of blogs but their sheer population size and the speed at which social trends spreads makes them a force to be reckon. In August 2006, China state media reported they have reached 34 million blogs, a 30-fold increase in four years. Although only 30% of those blogs are active (having made a post within a month), 10 million active bloggers is still a serious number.
Podcasting in China will definitely be an interesting trend to follow but the lack of good metrics will make it hard to determine an accurate number. The most recent report from Podlook says there are more than 100,000 podcasters in August but it's not certain if YouTube-like "podcasts" are among those counted.
