Mojiti: Annotating Videos Wiki-Style

Here's a new service that allows you to annotate a video much like how Flickr allowed annotation of pictures. Mojiti doesn't actually host the file but it adds features on top of these videos to allow a much more engaging experience. Annotated comments are linked to a specific time in the video, making it relevant to what you are watching, and appears as a small ticker on the bottom of the video. A "spotlight" lens can also be used to highlight an object in the video.

Mojiti currently supports most of the top video sharing sites and will add more in the coming months. They plan to make money by placing "Ad Spots" within the video using a pay-per-click model. The value for advertisers is that you will be able to link your ad to a relevant moment in the video but on the downside, that would require a lot of manual work as it would have to be done per video. While the ad isn't exactly embedded right into the video, it is intrusive enough that unless the owners of the videos have explicitly given consent, there maybe some legal hurdles for Mojiti down the road. Of course, the gray line becomes even more fuzzier when the video isn't owned by the company hosting it or the person who uploads it.
