In my last post, I mentioned I was heading to Big White for a snowboarding trip but due to bad weather and timing, our plans didn't quite work out that way.
As we neared the B.C. border, we drove into a snow storm that was worse than the one that hit Edmonton last year. And after 9 hours on the bus, we arrived at Revelstoke only to find the highway closed down due to an avalanche. A cop car pulled up to the bus only to get stuck in the snow. It took about 15 of us to push his car out (what do they carry in those cars!?) and after that, the thankful cop seem to turn a blind eye to those who decided to practice drawing their names in the snow. With no guarantees of when the highway would re-open, we all elected to goto Golden by Kicking Horse to make the best of our time. I'm sure Golden is certainly no Big White but the snow storm left Golden with tons of powder. Here's a quick summary and highlight of the trip:
- Having to help a cop who came to help us in the first place
- So much powder that it was actually fun to fall, unless you sunk half a meter into the snow.
- Only the bottom half of the mountain was open due to 160 mph winds at the top.
- In the midst of his drunken state, Greg found an interesting place to lick salt off of for his tequila. Don't ask me where, ask him.
- It seems like no matter where I go, I can't escape Denny's.
- We went to a restaurant in Kicking Horse that actually gets its food made and delivered by another restaurant. It took over an hour to get our food!
- I remember saying time after time that I won't ever try the terrain park but after this trip, I'm intrigued :)
This certainly wasn't the trip that I thought it would be but there were still plenty of good times and memories! May post pictures later...
